Residency in Portland?
You always hear that Portland is a great city for cycling. Never really considered living there... I guess I should put it on the list.

I wanna go riding.
I'm all for riding fixed. It really is fun and it gets you in shape pretty quick. Going up a hill without being able to change gears sucks. Anyhoo, this video kind of puts things in perspective. Reminds me of younger days with coaster brakes and contests to see who could leave the longest skid mark on the road.

CYGLO makes your ride Glow
Haven't done a bike mod post in a while. Thought you guys might like this one. It is essentially a tire that has LEDs built in. When they are spinning they look like a solid line. I'm thinking it looks sweet and it will keep you from getting hit at night. I wonder if the LEDs make this tire a bad ride. Who knows, they aren't in production yet and I don't really have a use for 'em. Just thought you guys might like to see them. Kind of makes me want to pretend I'm in TRON.

Port de Balès Cows
Haven't put up a cycling vid in a long time. Here is a cool one. While doing some recon on the Port de Balès in the Pyrenees, the upcoming stage 15 in the TDF, Lance had some unexpected visitors. There is a second vid after the jump with a little more talking and explanation of what they are doing.
I do want you to note that in this first vid Lance is getting himself ready to be filmed (he doesn't realize it is already recording) and in the "actual" video he wanted to release he is more put together. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Cycling treats Parkinson's
Check out this amazing video. Apparently parkinson’s patients have temporary relief from their tremors after riding a bicycle. At one point the vid says that people will have their tremors stop for days. I’ve got to get my grandfather to try this. His disease isn’t too bad yet, but imagine him not having to deal with it.
So I can't get the dumb ABC player to embed. Here is the link instead.

Saprtacus Wins Tour of Flanders

Cancellara is better known as a time trial specialist, having won many sinlge day races and taking the maillot jaune at the Tour of France during the prologue for the past two years and keeping it for a respectable amount of time. He is currently on Team Saxo Bank along with the Schleck brothers, the younger of which placed second in last years Tour de France and is a favorite for this years upcoming race.
Cancellara took the lead on the last climb of the day, known as the Muur [wall], and kept it for a solo win. “To attack on the Muur and leave Boonen behind is amazing. When I get old, to be able to say to young riders, ‘At the Ronde I attacked on the Muur, left Boonen behind and won alone,’ not in a sprint, or dropped and came back, but alone... it was the perfect scenario. The gladiator won the battle.” Although he may seem a little arrogant calling himself a gladiator, the reference is to his given nickname of Spartacus of which he happily embraces.
To watch the instant he is talking about watch the clip below right at 1:28. He destroys Boonen on the climb without even getting out of the saddle as Boonen struggles to keep up and fails. If you want some more vids, like interviews, click the jump.

Free Gas for Life
I know I should be studying. And I am. I have been non-stop for the past few days. So I post a few things. Keeps the mind active. Anyways, just saw this a bit ago. I realize that cyclists can get a bit preachy and haughty but I still like it.

London 2012 Velodrome
Here are several pics of the still in construction Olympic Velodrome for London 2012. Like some of the other stadiums, a cool point about the construction is that they are using confiscated guns and knives from England's several police agencies. What do you guys think?
More after the jump.

Look where you are going...
This guy is just asking for it. Haven't posted a fixed trick vid in a while. They mostly seem lame to me now. I like to go fast, not do dumb tricks or ride in circles. Having said that, this guy is nuts and deserves a post.

Sweet Custom Bike
I just realized that I haven't posted anything bike porntastic on this site for a while. Here is one that combines WWII inspiration with a little Watchmen.

Apparently this was the inspiration:

Tragedy in Our Own Backyard

Recently Texas Gov. Rick Perry vetoed legislation in June that would require motorists to give a three feet passing distance for cyclists. The officials say that the truck driver lost control of his vehicle, and therefore was an accident and is not at fault. There are a lot of problems with cycling laws today. I don't have an answer on how to fix them, but something has to be done. Especially with the ever growing popularity of cycling and commuting by bike.
Hit the jump for another picture. Be warned, it is a little more disturbing.

If this is what happened to the car, can you even imagine the cyclists?

Who Needs Training Wheels when you have the GyroWheel?
The vid says it all. I have to say that I don't remember ever using training wheels. I was a bit older when I first rode a bike though. I'm pretty sure I almost took Tonita out when I learned.

"Discover the Cycle Again"
Not another PSA, but still cycling specific. The city of Gothenburg has this going to encourage people to ride more. I like it.
